Today is the ninth annual  Record Store Day, a holiday created in 2007 to celebrate Mom and Pop record stores and the stagnant vinyl industry. In the past nine years, much has changed in the music industry, and vinyl is HOT again (thanks millenials). Over 700 independent retailers across the world celebrating selling/collecting music by numerous rarities and one-offs being released today, including new releases from David Bowie, J. Dilla, and Regina Spektor to name a few. To get a hold of the whole list of new releases, check out Record Store Day’s website.

Here’s what is going on locally.

Record Theatre (1800 Main St):

Ever want to meet Johnny Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls), Mary Ramsey (10,000 Maniacs), and get a signed copy Cassandra Kublinski’s latest CD all in one location with a Community Beer Works beer in hand? Well, good news for you. Get to Record Theatre’s 1800 Main Street location and make this dream a reality. Event starts at 11am.

Black Dots (223 Lafayette St.)

Black Dots will have a ton of super rare releases and specials for the collector, including (Grateful Dead, Sex PIstols, and Pinback). In addition, the entire store is 10%-50% off. GG Frank’s will be slinging dogs all day so show up hungry. At 2pm, the fun really starts at the Pop In, with hot ticket consisting of Del Paxton, M.A.G.S., Skateboard, G.O.A., Dirt War, Velvet Bethany, NIght slaves, and VWLS.

Revolver Records (1451 Hertel Ave)

The newest record store in the game, Revolver Records, are celebrating their second Record Store Day with style.  The store will be carrying exclusives from The Doors, Mac Demarco, and Madonna to name a few, with performances by Lost Elysium, The Moon Calves, Charisse & Tim, Bean Friend, Mark Norris (Girl Pope, Backpeddlers) & Jake Brockway, The Devil In Love, Randle & The Late Night Scandals, and Gary Stieglitz.

Spiral Scratch Records (1109 Elmwood Ave)

Spiral Scratch is back at their new location on Elmwood Avenue. They will be celebrating Record Store Day moving exclusives with some additional two for a dollar deals on select vinyls. If that isnt’ enough, expect sets from Scott Valkwitch, Eric Ellman, Bill Nehill. and Luke Pfaff.

Record Theatre (3500 Main St.) 

Record Theatre’s University Plaza location will be featuring live performances from Governess, Handsome Jack, Wolf, Bryce March, Fluse, Pappy Stardust, meNyou, Bold Folly, Peacebridge, Revenge Therapist and Crooked Gener8ion. Bring your appetite because there will be food trucks at this location (along with 1800 Main Street) and beer too.
