Perhaps, for many (myself included),
the most highly anticipated show to hit Buffalo's Thursday at the Harbor is the one tonight: The Jesus and Mary Chain. (Never thought I'd get
more excited for a band than Arrested Development, but, well. Here we
are.)
To bring you up to speed, The Jesus and
Mary Chain started off in Scotland in the early 80s. They played
fast, noisy sets, and did a lot of speed. By '85, they must've
switched to downers, having settled into their own slower, lo-fi
psychedelic sound with the release of Psychocandy. Always the de
facto posterboys for early, anglophilia-laden shoegaze, it really
wasn't until they were featured on the soundtrack to 2003's Lost in
Translation that they started to get widely recognized for their
contributions to the genre. And though their status as an "it"-band
might just hinge on the song from that soundtrack, they've got a lot
of gems from over the years that will be nice to hear live. Show starts at 5PM and features support from The Ruby Spirit and Irving Klaws. Stick
with the downers, and see you there.
