You know the best remedy for the heat? Not hearing another person complain about the heat. Personally, I love it, but it has made me slightly distracted. Example of said distraction, you came here for new songs and here I am going on about the heat. The other way to beat this heat is to listen to these cool new tracks, and to ignore the fact that I just made that awful joke. Here is this week's "Listener's Digest."
Purity Ring- "Fineshrine:" In what I assume was an effort to save me time, we actually deftly covered this song earlier today. Give it another listen, because it is another great track from a very promising duo.
Lorelai - "Hammers Meets Tongs:" Lorelai last released an album 18 years ago, and have returned after a rather long hiatus. Hiatus aside, this song sounds really fresh, with deadpan verses reminiscent of Ian Curtis, a soaring chorus, and an awesome feedback laden freakout at the end. The new album Everyone Must Touch the Stove (which seems kind of dangerous) will be released through Slumberland on August 14.
Cat Power - "Ruin:" Cat Power likes naming places apparently, and she does so throughout this song."Ruin" features Cat Power's smokey vocals behind a piano driven mid tempo rhythm. This travel focused track is the first single from the forthcoming new LP.
Dirty Projectors -"Dance for You:" The second song off their forthcoming followup to 2009's Bitte Orca, "Dance for You" is a simple song which gradually builds towards the end. Vocals and guitar are backed by occasional clapping and drums, with strings entering during the last fourth. A nice breezy song in comparison to the first single's more intricate structure.
All of these are well worth your time, but I wanted to mention that I really cannot get enough of this Purity Ring song. Until next time!
