Review: HotChaCha, The Fucking Hotlights, (at sea)

Maybe because I’m closer to the cheerios factory, or maybe there is excitement in the air (that smells like Cheerios), but I’m pumped. Who wouldn’t be with a trifecta like The Fucking Hot Lights, Hot Cha Cha, and (at sea) under one roof! I’m not a music critic; I just love it or hate it. Last night I loved it.
(at sea) began the night with a sound so unique and refreshingly different that you can’t help but say, Thank God I’m in buffalo right now!  The closest I can come to describing their sound, is a mix of the macabre pop rocker Edwyn Collins and the ever great Pixies. But that doesn’t explain it at all! So go see (at sea) next chance you get. Along with great music (at sea) put on a pretty dramatic show of attitude and lights, with a pick your adventure clapping segment you can’t help but get into it. And I must say a banjo played like that is a banjo’s delight. So if you weren’t there on time you missed something.
Hot Cha Cha, thanks for coming…aaaaa I was spit on…by a girl.., a girl bashed her elbow into my side, sexy dancers got up on stage from the audience, and the lead singer spent more time down with us than up on stage. I’ve only been to a few punk shows recently, but this totally brought me back to my old punk days in 99 ya know?!? Also it is always great to see a female drummer who plays hard. Roseanna Safos’s beats are still thumping in my head, As Jovana Batkovic lyrical howls ring in my ear. If they come back to Buffalo or close enough I suggest seeing them.
Fucking Hot Lights finished the night and oh what a night it became. The grime rock, hard rock, punk, indescribable mixture of what it means to play hard and put on a show that gets you moving and feeling like you could stay out all night if you didn’t have to be back at the office Wednesday morning, made me feel like less of a Tuesday warrior than ever. The heavy drums, clean fast guitar, rolling bass, and fierce vocals will make you throw back one more or maybe two to keep up with the energy blasting from the stage. It was so good when they finished I wanted a round two, and even a round three if I was up for it.
Three great bands with three distinct sounds that crammed a Tuesday night from 9 to midnight, it was a punk/rockgasim dream come true. If you happen to miss any part of Tuesday night you missed out, but don’t worry next Tuesday will come my only hope is that it’s as good as last night.
